Summer's Best Friend

The Mojito.

To many, this is known as a classic, simple cocktail. To us at Martini Avenue, we consider this the most refreshing cocktail known to humanity.  The cocktail itself is easy to create and mint can grow in many places, including your own herb garden or backyard.

Recipe:

  • 1 ounce fresh squeezed lime juice (1/2 small lime)
  • 1.5 ounces of simple syrup (1:1 sugar/water ratio) or 2 teaspoons of fine sugar
  • 5-10 mint leaves
  • 2 ounces of white rum
  • 1 ounce of club soda
  • 1 cup crushed ice

In your shaker take your mint leaves and muddle them.  This will release the mint oil to give your cocktail a refreshing mint and lime flavor.  Add your crushed ice. Squeeze lime juice and add simple syrup. Measure and pour white rum.  Shake vigorously for 30 seconds. Pour in highball glass and top with club soda and enjoy. Cheers!

Martini Avenue Tip: During muddling, you can add nearly any other fruit to give it a twist. Personally, I'm a huge fan of raspberries and blueberries.
